Starbucks Medicine Ball Copy Cat Recipe

Spring is officially here in Georgia, y'all. I don't care what the ground hog said, my flowers outside say differently and I am loving it. What I'm not loving about all the beautiful trees and flowers in bloom is the pollen and consequently, allergies. I spent last week on my couch sleeping with my box of tissues and allergy meds close by because my body decided at the first sight of pollen to stop functioning. I'm the worst sick patient ever, y'all. I'm fine with sitting down and reading a book but when it comes to having to spend an entire week on the sofa, getting nothing done i'm, not for it.

After five days of dealing with this awful mess I decided to take to Pinterest to find a DIY version of the Starbucks Medicine Ball drink I had just heard about from another blogger. She said it's not a regular menu item, you have to actually ask for it when you go. The thought of asking for something that's not on the menu at Starbucks made me not even want to go. I'm not sure why, it's a silly hang up I have, maybe it's because of my extreme introvertedness. Who knows but I couldn't see spending the money on a drink that may or may not be available. Plus I love a good DIY so to Pinterest I went. Sure enough I found the recipe and just luckily I already had most of the ingredients. What I didn't have I added to my grocery list because my husband and I were headed there later anyway. By buying all the ingredients I had them available to make this drink everyday instead of spending that $4 and something each day. So overall, it's been a huge savings by DIYing it.

I feel like I should warn you guys that this drink is strong. My husband and son weren't fans but I don't measure anything; it's just something i've picked up over the years from cooking so much so the first time I made this drink it was really strong. The second day it was much better and by today I have perfected it.

Here's what you'll need

Citrus Mint Tea (I couldn't find a blend of both at our grocery store so I opted for two different teas-one orange and the other mint)
Peach Tranquility Tea (again, not the actual Starbucks brand but I had a white peach tea already in my pantry so I used that)
Half hot water/Half steamed lemonade
Honey for it's anti-microbial effects (local honey is best)
Splash of peppermint (I used mint extract)

*I also added about a teaspoon and a 1/2 of sugar to mine because it tasted better but that's totally optional*

To Make the Medicine Ball

Boil 2 cups of water
Add sugar (if desired) into your cup
Add hot water, lemonade, and peppermint
Stir
Add in tea bags and allow to sit for 3-4 minutes (You want to drink this as hot as possible
Remove tea bags

Enjoy. This is perfect for soothing sore throats but it also helps with congestion. Within a day of me drinking this concoction I started feeling better. My sore throat went away, as did my ear ache. I'm not saying it's all because of this drink because I have been taking meds and diffusing oils, too but nothing seemed to help much so I think this had a lot to do with it.

  2. This sounds so tasty! I have to admit I haven't heard of it either. And I share your feelings - I would feel so awkward ordering something that isn't on the menu. What if it's all a lie and they think you're crazy? haha! Glad to know there's a version I can make at home.

    1. Yes! You really should. I agree that Starbuck's isn't cheap but when you have all the ingredients at home you can make it every day like I have. Everyday since Saturday!
