Oh Baby. Q&A

Hey Friends! If you've been around Peaches & Willow for a while then you know that things were quieter for about 6 months here. I stopped posting 3-4x's a week and went radio silent. I've been back with three new posts since August though and if you missed the post that explained why I was silent for so long you can read it here. Long story short; we will be welcoming a new member to the Soto tribe in November and we could not be more excited. I thought it would be fun to up-date you all with a Q&A post on my pregnancy and all things baby related so far. Since I haven't been blogging much there's a lot to cover but i'll try to keep it brief.

So get cozy and let's talk all things baby.

How far along are you?
I am 30 weeks, so officially in the third trimester and baby is as big as a cantaloupe this week.

How did you find out you were pregnant?
My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant since we got married in September 2015. You can imagine in the 2 and a half years it took there were many disappointing months of negative pregnancy tests and I honestly gave up on taking tests. My heart couldn't handle what my head already knew every month so I stopped taking tests. In March I had a few days where I was super tired and not feeling well. I chalked it up to allergies because mine always act up in the spring time and my husband had just gone to the doctor for a major sinus infection. It's par for the course for us living in Georgia this time of year so I chalked it up to allergies, too and started taking Zyrtec and Flonase. Around this time our dog became super clingy to me instead of my husband. I still thought nothing of it and continued on my way.

Monday, March 20th came and my monthly friend did not. I was using the Ovia app to track my cycle and fertile days so I knew I was definitely sue for that visitor that day. I still didn't have my hopes up but thought it was still best to check since I had started taking allergy meds. After I took my son to school I ran to CVS and picked up two tests. I went home and reluctantly took the first one. I had every intention of putting in on the counter and walking away, not wanting to face the disappointment of another negative test but within seconds it turned positive. I didn't believe it still so I walked away and started cleaning house and doing chore. Periodically I would come back to look at it expecting to see the negative sign but to my surprise it never changed (imagine that!) so I decided to do another test. Same thing, it turned positive within seconds. It finally started to sink in that it was real and for the rest of the day I walked around in a complete fog.

How did you tell your husband?
I wish I had something original or creative but I don't. I was in that big of a state of shock that I didn't think of anything fun. I just knew when he got home from work I had to tell him. I didn't want to call or text him before because I wanted to be there to share that moment with him so when he got home from work I followed him into our bedroom to talk about our days while he changed clothes. I do this all the time so it didn't throw him off but I still didn't want to blurt it out mid conversation so I waited until he was done changing and started to leave the room. As he started to walk away I told him to wait, I had something for him. Not even sure where his mind went at that moment as I ran into the bathroom and pulled both tests from my drawer and handed them to him. He was in complete shock as he said "Are you serious?" I told him that yes, I was serious and I couldn't make this up. He hugged me so tight and we both smiled the biggest smiles ever.

How does big brother feel?
He's 15 so he's pretty non chalant about it. When we told him he wasn't the least bit surprised. He knew we wanted another baby but he is very excited about being a big brother and he's been very protective over me.

Do you know the gender?
Yes we do! We found out in May and did a small gender reveal on Father's Day in my parent's back yard while our family from Illiois was down. We're having a GIRL! and we are over the moon about it. I've always pictured myself a boy mom so I was in complete schock when I found out that we're having a girl.

Do you have a name picked out?
We do. We announced it on Facebook last Thursday. Her name is Presley Noelle.

Presley is after my mom’s side of the family, in fact, Prestley Mill Rd (spelled wrong) is named after my maternal grandmother’s family.

Noelle is a name Alex picked out because Christmas holds a special place with us because we started dating and got engaged at Christmas.

How are you feeling?
I have been so sick and nauseous this entire pregnancy. I've been on a prescription for it since our first appointment at 10 weeks and haven't come off of it yet. Thankfully it works but it makes me super tired so there's that. I'd rather be tired than sick though. It'll all be worth it in the end.

Do you have any cravings?
I've craved a little bit of everything but surprisingly not much sweet. All that really seems to consistently agree with me though is Chick fil A or Waffle House. Waffles and buttered biscuits always sound good!

Have you gained any weight?
Not at all. In fact, i've actually lost weight (9 lbs) because early on I was told that my blood work came back showing I was at risk for pre-gestational diabetes. My doctor advised me to cut back on sugar and starches such as pasta, white rice, white bread and potatoes so I have and I've lost weight. Our baby girl is actually gaining though so they aren't worried at all.

Do you have gestational diabetes?
So after failing my one hour I went in for my three hour last week and found out I passed so no GD for me but it was a mixed blessing because even though I stressed myself out over it, I also learned how to eat healthier and take better care of myself.

How big is baby measuring now?
At my last appointment with the specialist she was weighing 2.5 lbs. My mid wife says she's on the small side but they're not worried because I'm a small person and my son was a small baby, too. He was 5.5 lbs and born at 38 weeks.

When it your due date?
My due date is November 19th.

Is Alex excited?
OMG! Ridiculously so. He's over the moon more than anyone else, I think. This is his first biological child (he's adopted Dylan) but this is his first time experiencing everything from the pregnancy on plus that whole little girl thing. She's already got him wrapped around her finger and she's not even here yet.

If you've been a part of this journey from the start we thank you for all your love and support. It's not been an easy journey but it's one I would totally do all over just for her. I'll keep sharing up dates for y'all. We're in the home stretch now friends!
